Violetta Ming Lee, second daughter of the late Alonzo and Ila McNair, was born in Coffee Springs, Alabama on April 16, 1916. On Sunday, November 24, 1996 at 9:40 p.m., God in loving mercy called her at the Meridian Corsica Hills Nursing Home to her eternal rest.

Violetta began her early education in Albany, Georgia, then graduated from Ballard Normal School in Macon, GA. She received her B.S. degree from Fort Valley State University, and began an elementary teaching career. She taught Home Economics at Ballard Hudson High School in Macon, GA.

In 1952, she relocated to Baltimore, MD and married Ernest Washington Lee. They were blessed with a daughter, Ernestine Joanne Lee. After coming to Baltimore, she began a career as a social worker with the Maryland State Government. While working in this career, she matriculated at Coppin State College and the University of Maryland. She received her Master of Science (Social Work) from Coppin in 1979. She also took various courses in law at Chesapeake College. Violetta retired in 1981 as a Social supervisor.

Violetta loved children and she was always encouraging them to learn and do things to better themselves. She was an ardent and devout church and civic worker. She was an active member of the Bryans United Methodist Church, the local NAACP, AARP, Sigma Wives and the Kent Island Federation of Art (KIFA) in which she served as treasurer in 1995. She was always working in her garden and helpful throughout the community.

Over the years, she has received certificates from various organizations, the governor and various communities for her care and service. The last certificate she received was from the NAACP on May 4, 1996 for her years of dedicated service.

She leaves to mourn a devoted daughter, Ernestine Joanne Lee; three grandchildren, TaShika, Dominique and Brittany Lee; one aunt, Viola McNair, two sisters, Lenora Ming Cobb of Baltimore, MD,and Nell Ming LaBeach of Washington, DC, seven nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
